Langalbandh is a very well known Hindu pilgrimage destination in Bangladesh. The Hindu pilgrims from all over Bengal and the adjacent regions (India, Srilanka, Nepal etc.) gather in hundreds of thousands every year on the banks of the Brahmaputra river at Langalbandh for religious rites including ``Holy Bath`` during the venerated festival of `Mahashtami Tithi` during April. (Incidentally, the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed at this place signifying how the great leader revered this place.) The river on which Langalbandh was situated came to be called Brahmaputra, because, according to Hindu mythology, it was the son (`Putra`) of Lord Brahma.  The place will be developed as a self-sustained place for pilgrimage as well as a tourist spot. Project need: Every year innumerable pilgrims come to Langalbandh. This holy place occupies an important part in the golden heritage of Bangladesh. As the place has the religious as well as historical significance, this project which contain

Sri Sri Radha Ballav Mandir, Chutarhuda, Jessore, Bangladesh

157-year-old Radha Ballav temple on the verge of collapse. Many Hindus still come to the Radha Ballav Mandir (temple) everyday to perform their puja (prayers) and place their offerings to the deity. During most festivals people from all walks of life throng here. Panchanan Ghosh, an employee of zamindar (landlord) Naresh Bose built this temple in 1853 at Chutarhuda village in Jessore. The 157-year-old temple, devoid of maintenance work, is now on the verge of collapse. Grass and plants have sprouted on the temple's walls and roof, while cracks have developed around the structure. Without a boundary wall around the temple, stray animals move in its complex all the time. The temple walls are 35 feet high and it has five domes, which are 20 feet high. The aesthetically designed edifice attracts all irrespective of caste and creed. On a visit to the temple, Prodip Kumar Ghosh told that the temple is fast losing its beauty due to negligence and lack of renovation.

A Shiv Mandir and A Dol Mandir, Maheshpur, Jhenaidah, Bangladesh

A Shiv mandir (temple) and a Dol mandir -- that are both over 500 year-old -- in Jhenaidah are on the verge of collapse due to lack of maintenance and renovation. The temples -- still bearing the signature of past artistic designs -- are in Maheshpur upazila town in the district. These once exquisite edifices are now in shambles as weeds have taken over causing cracks; no restoration has been done, seemingly, since their creation. The temples are located 45 kilometers to the west of the district town, and are believed to have been built during the reign of Shaista Khan in the 1600s (mid to late). Both temples follow the 'jor-bangla' style (with a 'chala' style roof), typical of this region. Although time and nature have damaged most of the terracotta plaques on the temple walls, their shape and structure still bear authenticity of the heritage they are part of. The roof of the Shib mandir is inwardly concave with a thickness of 3.6 feet, and the temple
